How It All Started

I never knew what writing a book involved. I thought it might be fun because I enjoy writing and my mind is less cluttered when I write the words down before they pile up. Putting thoughts, words, sentences, and paragraphs together is sort of like my granddaughter who is a tiny bit OCD when she spills cheerios all over the table. After the spill, she lines them all up into a neat, organized row. But I digress. What I’m trying to say is, my book did not start out the way it is now.

My original purpose in writing my memoir was to provide my granddaughters with a history of their grandma. I don’t really know how long I’ll be on this earth, and I thought they might want to know a bit more about what my life was like back in the day. Actually, that was the original title of the book. I called it “Back in the Day.” Then, more than one person (my editor included) told me that title would never sell.

As I pondered what other titles I could use, I wanted it to weave in with the story of the Wizard of Oz. Once you read the book, you will know more about why I chose that theme. The title Once in a Lullaby – My Journey Home came to me. Unfortunately, I learned that song lyrics in a title are not allowed. Copyright issues and all that. I was dutiful and sent off a letter to the company that holds the copyright for MGM studios to ask permission to use that title. I haven’t heard from them. As I waited, the title changed to, My Lullaby Journey. But what does that mean? There is this thing called a “sub-title.” (Did I mention I thought writing a book would be fun?)

Now I’m in a holding pattern, waiting for the subtitle to rise to the surface. So far, I’m stuck. I don’t know if that is because God wants me to be patient in waiting for the copyright permission request, or if I’m just slow on the uptake. 🙂

I know I want the subtitle to give Glory to God, to mention a persevering faith or stubborn faith…or…or…well, I think you get my point. Rather than sit around and do nothing while waiting for the subtitle to emerge, I decided to create a blog to share more life lessons learned along the journey.

My hope is, that by the time I finish this article, or maybe another article on the blog, I will have the subtitle and the book will be published soon after that. Then I can write more articles about God’s Amazing Grace.

The book started out for my granddaughters. God’s plan revealed the book is for anyone who longs for a deeper relationship with Holy Spirit. My memoir begins with tidbits of what life was like back in the day. Yet there is a deeper message and that is, faith and hope are alive and well today!

My prayer is that you are encouraged after you read My Lullaby Journey. No matter what you will face in this life, I pray that you trust God is with you every step of the way. God adores you and will go above and beyond your wildest expectations, simply because He loves you so much!
