The word for today’s Five Minute Friday is Practice. Now one would think as a spiritual director, the immediate “go to” message would be something about “spiritual practice.” This morning though, that is not where my mind went. I wasn’t sure what to write about so I asked God, “What do you want me to write this morning Lord?” Immediately I got. “Practice Hospitality.”
Many of you already know I am an extreme introvert. (Repeat that last word three times please.) You know, the INFJ type. I realized God was telling me that to be comfortable with small talk and visitors, I need to “practice” and not avoid. Sheesh! I was not looking for a re-direct. I was looking for something wise and profound to share. Oh, there is wisdom in that message. It’s from God, so wisdom is there already. God was telling me I need to put “practice hospitality” into well, for lack of a better word…practice. (God is also profound.)
People are uncomfortable with different things. Some extroverts are uncomfortable if they are away from people too long. (My extrovert husband comes to mind here.) Sounds like heaven to me, but I digress. My point is. In order to grow, change, bloom, and become all God wants us to be, we need to practice doing what makes us uncomfortable.
Hmmmm, maybe there is some sort of “spiritual practice” that will help me with this whole people and hospitality thing. (See me looking for the nearest cave dwelling monk to consult.)
STOP – Five minutes are up.
P.S. Apparently, I have some growing to do.
