This post is written for Five Minute Friday. The word for today is Start.
I have five minutes to write about the word “start.” Today is Friday and I’ve had a slow start. It feels like a Friday. I procrastinated in sitting down to write today—time to start. Yep. I could say that. I could use that word for daily happenings. I think God has more to say.
It is time to start listening, paying attention and turning around. We are on the precipice of change. It is time to recognize that God is doing a new thing. God is changing things up. Maybe it’s time to wake up—to start over. I don’t know. That is for each of us to decide.
Do we want to remain stuck in the pattern of fear and conflict? We don’t have to stay there, even if political leaders try to sway us in that direction. We can start in a new direction right now. We don’t have to believe the fear tactics and lies that plant seeds of hatred toward our neighbor or anyone who isn’t white. Today we can start being America again. The real America.
Today we can honor our ancestors, most of them immigrants and thank God for our country because of them. Today we can reclaim the America that we know, the one that has always been great. Today we can start taking personal responsibility for what we choose to listen to and believe. Today we can turn the lies, hatred and racist vitriol around. Today, we can start in a new direction.
Will you start changing our country’s direction from hate back to love? It’s up to each of us to make that choice—or not. What will you start doing to reclaim our country that belongs to the people of the UNITED States?
